What’s Up With the Office Siren Aesthetic? – TikTok’s Latest Addition

Updated: Apr 25

Keeping up with trends is a drag – we know. TikTok’s the ultimate guide for trendy girls who want to rock an office attire, without looking too corporate. But is getting that professional look too time-consuming – and dare we say, boring?

This year’s fashion hidden gem is the office siren aesthetic. The trend has taken the office girls by storm this winter, partly due to its resemblance of the ’90s and ‘2000s trends, but also because of Bella Hadid, who dominated this look in her last appearances.

London fashion stylist Bethan Dadson shared some tips on the essentials you must own in your wardrobe to look chic - but natural - at your 9 to 5 job.

“Some elementary pieces to rock this style are blazers, kitten heels, and rectangular or narrow lens glasses,” she said.

The beauty of this look is the simplicity that hides beneath it – you can easily blend your outfit with a light, classic makeup, and be ready to go! All you need is a cat-eye or a simple brown eyeshadow if you want to keep it casual, and some blush to make your features appear more prominent.

Zonera Zaheer, 23, works in an office. She says that the corpcore style gives her a sense of confidence and female empowerment. As for her work makeup routine, she usually prefers darker and more eye-catchy shades.

“I usually wear heavy dark eyeliner or emphasise dark around the eyes. I wear dark lipstick which is normally in the shades of purple red or black, I make my contour and bronzer more exaggerated, and I try giving it a striking look,” she said.

A recent story published by Medium shows that the recently-revived style stands as a symbol of innovation, confidence, and adaptability. Zonera agrees, saying that keeping a sense of style at her job has improved not only her work ethic, but her self-perceived performance, too.

“I feel like I am setting standards for myself and sending a message through my work clothes of professionalism, silent female empowerment, and authority,” Zonera said.

Although Bethan believes that the trend will come and go like any others, and that it will slightly alter over time, she says that there has been more excitement among young girls to have an office job, and a huge influence was found in the ingenuity of this trend.

“Before the office siren became a trend again, a lot of people didn’t want the traditional 9 to 5 job, due to an influx of influencers and not being able to express themselves in the workplace,” said the fashion designer. That has all changed.
